Body Art |
How long does a Su-Do Body Art design last? It will fade naturally over a period of about 2-5 days but can be completely removed at any time with Isopropyl Alcohol or Baby Oil. The longevity of Su-Do designs varies according to location on the body, skin type, after-care, physical activity and proper application. Return to Top
How should a Su-Do Body Art design be maintained? Su-Do Body Art designs are best suited to a dry skin. No creams, oils, perfumes or oil-based soaps should be used on or around the area of the design. It should not be rubbed by clothing or by towel-drying. Unscented powder may be applied after bathing to help keep the area dry. This is explained in the Su-Do Body Art Aftercare Leaflet (SU3105).

Is Su-Do Body Art the same as henna tattoos? No, henna is a process that actually stains the skin so henna tattoos cannot be removed. They will degrade over a period of weeks as the body naturally exfoliates.

Can Su-Do Body Art stencils be re-used? Su-Do Body Art Stencils are backed with a medical grade skin adhesive which is necessary to achieve professional results. Depending on the intricacy of the stencil, the adhesive begins to become less effective after multiple uses. The stencil should then be discarded.

Does Su-Do Body Art Colour stain clothing? Yes, if Body Art Colour is spilled onto fabric, it will stain. It may eventually wash out. Clients should be advised to avoid having Su-Do Body Art designs applied to areas that continually come into contact with clothing as some transfer of the paint from the skin to the clothing is possible. This will both hasten degradation of the design and may stain the fabric. The same is true of Su-Do Body Art designs applied to areas that clients may rub continually against, e.g., a design on the shoulder may rub against bedclothes during sleep.

Can Su-Do Body Art be applied in conjunction with a Su-Do Tan? If the two treatments are undertaken at the same time the Body Art must be applied first. As moisturizing is recommended to preserve a tan but will hasten the degradation of a Body Art design, the area where the design is applied should be avoided when moisturizing.

How does Su-Do Tropical Tanning Lotion work? Su-Do Tropical Tanning Lotion contains the active ingredient DHA that is found in the majority of sunless tanning products. DHA or Dihydroxy Acetone is a chemical which reacts with amino acids in the uppermost layer of the skin and causes them to turn brown. DHA has been used safely in cosmetics for over 30 years.

How quickly does a Su-Do Tan develop? Much in the same way as sunless tanning creams, Su-Do Tanning Lotion starts to react approximately 2 hours after application. In most cases, it is at least 10 hours before the tan has fully developed.

Is Su-Do one of the fast “turbo-tanning” systems I have heard about? No.So-called "turbo-tanning" systems use a technology called high pressure, low volume (HPLV) which at this time requires a compressor unit that when operating is similar in sound to a vacuum cleaner. In addition, such systems do not allow the subtle application techniques required to achieve a perfect tan, as the HPLV air-guns have a wide spray pattern similar to an automotive paint sprayer which also causes excessive fluid usage and considerable over-spray requiring the use of an extraction system. Having considered such systems Su-Do believes that the modest time saving in application is more than offset by the disadvantages mentioned above and the loss of a personal “treatment” experience for the client.

Is any skin preparation or aftercare required with a Su-Do Tan? Before receiving a Su-Do Tan, the client should exfoliate and lightly moisturize. Some salons may wish to offer this as part of the tanning service. After tanning, the client should not bathe for at least 5 hours while the tan is developing. Regular moisturizing helps the tan to last longer. This is explained in the Su-Do Pre-Tan Consultation & Aftercare Leaflet (SU6511).

Is a Su-Do Tan safe? A Su-Do Tan is completely safe. DHA, the chemical in the lotion which turns the skin brown, has been safely used in sunless tanning products for over 30 years. The FDA has recently issued updated guidelines regarding the use of DHA in sunless tanning.

Does a Su-Do Tan protect the skin from sunburn? Su-Do Tanning Lotion contains no sunscreens; therefore it is still necessary to apply sunblock before sunbathing to prevent burning. However, once a base tan has been achieved using Su-Do Tanning Lotion, conventional tanning can be undertaken at a slower, safer pace using a higher protection factor sunscreen, resulting in a deeper, longer lasting tan.

What is the difference between the Bronze and Clear Su-Do Tanning Lotions? The Bronze and Clear lotions work in the same way as each other, i.e., the tan starts to develop after approximately 2 hours and has fully developed after approximately 10 hours. The Bronze lotion contains a colouring agent which gives the instant appearance of a light tan. This has either been washed off or worn off by the time the Su-Do tan has developed. The Clear lotion is recommended for use on skin with large pores, or on areas with extremely dry skin. When should I use Su-Do Dark Bronze Tanning Lotion? Use the Dark Bronze Tanning Lotion on clients with naturally darker skin or those who already have a base tan. We strongly advise against using Dark Bronze Tanning Lotion on clients with fair skin.

Can there be an allergic reaction to Tanning Lotion? Yes, a very small number of people are allergic to DHA and will develop a temporary rash if any substance containing DHA is applied to their skin. If a new client is not sure if they are allergic to DHA, Su-Do strongly suggests applying a small test patch in an unobtrusive area and leaving for several hours to be sure that there is no adverse reaction prior to applying a full treatment.
